How to get to Pattaya

Getting to Pattaya from Bangkok is very straightforward.

Since the opening of Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport a couple of years ago and huge improvements in the highway system, getting to Pattaya is now easier than ever.

The new international airport is located between Bangkok and Pattaya and this has not only cut the distance to Pattaya but also allows travellers to completely avoid Bangkok traffic.

Currently, the average journey time from the airport to Siam Royal View in a private car takes about 1 hour 30 minutes.

There are many recent road improvements in Pattaya with the highway running right to the centre of the city and just a short distance from Siam Royal View village.

It is also possible to hire a taxi or a limousine at reasonable rates, drive your own vehicle or hop on an air conditioned bus to take you directly to the city centre.

How to get to Pattaya by Private Car

How to get to Pattaya by Public Transport

  • From Bangkok: You can reach Pattaya by car in less than two hours (about 120 km) by travelling either along Bangna-Trat Highway via Bang Pakong, Chonburi and Sri Racha. It is even quicker if you avoid Chonburi by turning onto Highway 36 or take the elevated motorway from Rama 9 Road in Bangkok which also leads to Highway 36 near Chonburi.
  • From Suvarnabhumi Airport: Take a similar route as from Bangkok, with travel time of less than I hour, 30 minutes.
  • From Bangkok: A metered taxi can be ordered (or in some cases flagged down) in Bangkok to drive you the whole distance door to door in Pattaya. The trip costs no more than 1500 Baht (Eur 37, USD 50) and takes less than two hours. Air conditioned buses depart every 30 minutes from the Eastern Bus Terminal in Bangkok from 5am to 10pm, though it is important to take the express bus, which travels on the expressway and takes about two hours. The State Railway of Thailand offers a daily train service departing from Hualumphong Station at 6:50am and takes four to five hours - scenic but slow.
  • From Suvarnabhumi Airport: Comfortable taxis with set fares are available at the taxi queue (avoid touts inside the airport), that will drive you all the way to Pattaya in less than 1 hour, 30 minutes for about 1200 baht (Eur 29, USD 39). Limousines are more expensive, but more comfortable and can be hired at airport kiosks. Low-priced first-class buses are also available at the airport’s Public Transportation Centre departing about every two hours and terminating at Pattaya bus station. They will also drop you off at other places in town on request.
